Focus on Food With the Samsung NXmini

It seems that everyone is taking pictures of their food these days, and whether it’s for their own amusement or to write their next food blog, there’s something about taking photos of food that excites our senses. When done right, food stands as artwork that is almost seems too beautiful to eat–almost.

Composing the right food shot can be fun and easy with a couple simple tips, and with the Samsung NX Mini having a dedicated FOOD feature, it becomes even easier. This shooting style captures food photos with an extra boost of color, emphasizing the natural tones in your shot.

To shoot using the FOOD feature set your NX mini in SMART MODE then choose FOOD.

Two things to keep in mind when composing a food shot are the angle and the background. In the above shot the entire background is consumed by a white plate, emphasizing the entree as the main focus. Using a background with clean colors, like white, brings a more elegant feel to your dining scene. On the other hand, using stone or wood backgrounds can bring a rustic feel to your dish.

When it comes to angling your camera, try either a side angle shot or an above shot that looks straight down onto the food. A side angle shot is the best way to get a full perspective of a dish, without making your photo look flat. On the other hand, a straight down shot can make your photo look simple and clean.

Playing around with shooting angles and backgrounds are easy ways to alter your shot and achieve the mood you desire. Now the only hard part is being patient enough not to take a bite! Bon appétit!
